“Stay Alive” works as the soundtrack for the 7FATES: CHAKHO, an original web-novel and comic released by BTS in cooperation with the Naver Webtoon—one of the biggest digital comics platforms worldwide.
This touching song adds depth to the storyline inspired by the Joseon Dynasty but set in a futuristic city. It follows connected by fate seven-members tiger hunting team called ‘Chakho.’ SUGA, who produced the song, based it on the actual synopsis and drawing sketches of the comic to get the synergy with the story. In addition, Jung Kook’s vocals were added to complete the atmosphere of the song.
The title “Stay Alive” is a sentence that expresses the surviving narrative of the main characters in the story when thrown into harsh fate.
The soundtrack was unveiled for the first time through Naver Webtoon a few days before the official release—on February 5, 2022.

I worked on “Stay Alive” with Jung Kook. It’s been a while since we started to work on it, but I wasn’t sure when it would be released. So I’ve just been working on it, making the beat and the melody. We were going back and forth, and then when the release date was fixed, I started to write the lyrics. I think I started working on it in the US when we arrived before the LA concert. I worked on it on the plane. I wrote two sets of lyrics on that plane ride—“Girl Of My Dreams” and this one. I think I started recording as soon as we arrived. I wrote the lyrics for “Stay Alive.” Since it’s a webtoon, I looked at the story and everything. I think I read until episode 3 or 4. And kind of… I thought of the OST songs for animations.
First of all, Jung Kook was such a good singer. So there weren’t that many difficulties. When I was writing the song, the key, and the verse… If I set it on the verse, the chorus part got to be too high. And if I set it on the chorus, the verse part was too low key. So the melody goes up and down a lot, but Jung Kook sang so well when we recorded it. I was in the US for longer, and when Jung Kook sent me the recordings, I thought he did really well. So I kept listening to it over and over again before sending over the mixed version. And I loved it so much that we didn’t even have a second recording session. Jung Kook did such a great job. He’s so talented.
Yes, that was the song I was working on while we were shooting IN THE SOOP 2, but Jung Kook’s melody didn’t make it.
For “Stay Alive,” we have been writing with our good friend Gabriel Brandes loads. So when BigHit sent over a track they had (which we didn’t know was a SUGA production at first) but it was so beautiful… straight away we all started putting melodies down on it. We must have come up with about three whole versions of it, but we selected our favorite parts and sent those ideas off to the guys at BigHit. They contacted us shortly after to say they had used some of our melody ideas, but again, the lyrics all came from their side. So we were so thankful they gave us the opportunity to be involved. It’s such a beautiful song, and Jung Kook’s voice on it is angelic and stunning!
