Miley Cyrus's New Song 'Nothing Breaks Like a Heart' Is Here – ELLE

After much teasing, Miley Cyrus released the very first single of her new music era tonight at 7 p.m., "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart." She and Mark Ronson wrote the song together, which poetically explores heartbreak and resilience. The music video, meanwhile, touches on gun culture and the political culture we’re in:
The personal ties lyrically seem limited—at least in terms of Cyrus’s romantic relationship. In the first verse, Cyrus alludes to a "burning house," just weeks after her and her fiancé Liam Hemsworth’s Malibu estate burned down in the Woolsey Fire. Cyrus and Hemworth have visibly spent time together in Tennessee ("Remember what you said to me?/We’re drunk in love in Tennessee/And I’ll hold it, we both know it"). But beyond that, Cyrus doesn’t seem to be referencing any recent romantic heartbreak. Cyrus has been engaged to Hemsworth for over a year, and a source told Entertainment Tonight earlier this week that "Miley and Liam are totally in love and are so happy living together."
Taken together with her music video, it’s more likely Cyrus is referencing her political heartbreak and her own coping with the divisive current political climate.
Here, the lyrics to decipher, via Genius. They are a powerful glimpse of Cyrus’s songwriting now.
